Wine of the Month - February 2012
Colio Estate Vineyards 2008 Gamay Noir

There is not a large production of Gamay Noir in Essex county and when it does find its way into a bottle of wine it is often used as a blending grape.

Colio's Gamay Noir is Lake Erie North Shore only 100% Gamay wine!

Tasty spice and black pepper notes along with a nice balance of cherry fruits are the recipe for this delicious red wine.

This 2010 Riesling is made in the same style as past Rieslings from Muscedere Vineyards. A light-bodied, clean, crisp white wine with a hint residual sweetness balanced by the backbone of acidity.

Cooper’s Hawk Riesling 2010 Review

Fri 29, Jul. 11

3.67 overall score

Winemaker’s Notes:
A single varietal estate bottled Riesling, with the perfect amount of acidity left naturally behind during fermentation to ensure the fresh crisp style of wine this grape is meant to be. Fermented slow and cold, the wine has kept all it’s characteristics of the unique terroir of the estate’s rich soil.

Tasting Notes:
Rose petal tea with a hint of natural sugar left behind to balance the crisp acidity alluding to lemongrass.

    4.33 overall score

    Winemaker’s Notes:
Our Lighthouse Riesling has a fragrant orchard fresh aroma with a delicate peach bouquet. With a sugar code of (2) it is a refreshing sweeter white wine.

The balance of acidity and residual sugar give this Riesling a good balance with a long aging potential. With a fragrant orchard fresh aroma and a delicate peach bouquet this is a refreshing white wine.

Our “classic” Riesling makes a perfect complement for appetizers, seafood, cheeses and white meats or enjoy it just on its own.

    Colio Frizzante Review

    Wed 29, Dec. 10
    1 Reviews
    0 Reviews
    4.00 overall score

    Winemaker’s Notes:
Tart, green apple and cirus notes abound in this flavourful softly effervescent Frizzante. Pair this with smoked salmon and capers, oysters on the half shell, chicken kebobs or with good friends as a delicious apertif.

    What is Frizzante?
Italians refer to slightly sparkling wines as frizzante wines. In Spain, however, frizzante wines are known as Vino de Aguja. The French term for this type of sparkling wine is Petillant and the German term is Perlwein.

Frizzante wines have small bubbles that offer a refreshing tingle while helping to mask the wine’s sweetness. Frizzante wines are also considered to be slightly less effervescent than champagne. If you find champagne to be too “fizzy” for your tastes, frizzante wines are a great beverage choice for weddings, anniversaries, holidays, and other special occasions.

Although there are many different types of frizzante wines, Lambrusco, Gavi, Vinho Verde, and Moscato d’Asti are among the most common.
