Full Bodied & Fruity Red Wine

This is a unique Pelee Island wine. Gamy Noir is a French grape variety that is solely responsible for the distinctive wines of Beaujolais, while Zweigelt, an Austrian / Hungarian grape variety, is Austria’s most popular red grape.

Deep in colour. The appealing fruitless of Gamay Noir and the distinct spiciness of Zweigelt grapes is blended to yield this full bodied red. Its boysenberry and black current flavours combine with a fine tannic finish and crisp acidity.

Pelee Island Cabernet Franc 2013 Review

4.00 overall score

Cabernet Franc is one of the classic red grapes used to make famous French Bordeaux Cabernets. It makes especially good Cabernet from the Pelee Island Vineyards because it ripens early and welling the warm island microclimate.

Deep purple-red in colour. Perfectly ripe fruit on the nose, with fresh raspberries and black currant aromas, and a hint of cedar. Succulent summer berry pie flavours on the palate, with supple tannins, medium acidity and a long, spicy finish.

BLEND:
100% Cabernet Franc

ALCOHOL: 13%
RESIDUAL SUGAR: 2.4 g/l
SUGAR CODE: (0) Extra Dry

PAIR WITH
steaks and beef, spicy sausage and pulled pork, smooth plates, lamb and pork dishes, most hard cheeses, BBQ meat.

4.00 overall score

Bricklayer’s Estate Wines at Colio Estate Wines

Winemaker’s Notes:
Our Cabernet Franc vines are in the oldest part of our vineyard, aptly named the Old
Farm. Soils here are rockier than elsewhere in the vineyard, allowing for good drainage
and healthy fruit and vines. Also in parts nearest to the moderating effects of Lake Erie,
the fruit is given the greatest opportunity to ripen properly, avoiding the bell pepper
aromas common in many Cabernet Francs made with less ripe fruit.

Colour: Medium purple
Bouquet: Savour the aromas of ripe berries.
Taste: Pronounced flavours of ripe blackcurrants, raspberries, and a smooth finish imparted on the wine by skilled oak aging.
Food Matches: Pair with game meats, steak and rosemary roasted lamb
Serve At: 15-18°C

VINIFICATION
Fermentation: Stainless steel tanks
Aging: 16 months, 75% in French /25% in American oak barrels, 30% new barrels

Cooper’s Hawk Cabernet Franc Reserve 2012 Review

Sat 21, Feb. 15

5.00 overall score

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes:

The 2012 Vintage was the complete alter ego of 2011! The record low rainfalls almost reach drought levels, but just when we really needed rain, we got it. High brix levels were reached earlier than usual allowing for a harvest date based on the important criteria of ripeness, acidity and flavour. That luxurious combination is captured in this bottle of our 2012 Cabernet Franc Reserve. Aged for 12 months in both French and American oak barrels this wine exhibits a complex juiciness on the palate that further highlights the character of this amazing vintage and varietal. We only have 150 cases of this amazing wine.

Oxley Estate Cabernet Franc 2012 Review

Sat 31, May. 14

3.00 overall score

Winemaker’s Notes:
Cabernet Franc, a winter-hardy varietal, loves our climate and soil… and we love this grape! Our 2012 has a fetching, Bing cherry colour that dances in your glass. On the nose early aromas of raspberry, bell pepper and tomato leaf open up to earthy, herbaceous notes of thyme and violet. The palate is sleek – red berries, mushroom and spice, with focused tannins and well-defined acidity building a bridge to the lengthy, harmonious finish.
