Wine and Cheese Pairing Event at Colio Estate Winery
On October 05, 2008 Wanda and I headed over to Colio Estate Winery for the Cheese Exploration ~ Discover Quebec Fromage
Colio Winery offered four Sessions at: 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm & 4:00 pm (max. of 10 people per session)
Greg Williams of Far Flung Foods discussed pairing artisan cheese with some of Colio’s finest wines. The focus was on cheese from the province of Quebec.
Here are the wine and cheese pairings and my comments:
CEV Gewurztraminer 2005 (white wine)
Cheese: Delice des Appalaches
Comments: This is a very nice pairing. I am not a big fan of white wines but when I tried this pairing I realized that I had been missing some excellent wines. Try this pairing out.
CE Riesling 2007 (white wine)
Cheese: Le Fin Renaud
Comments: This is a nice fruity wine that is perfect when paired with Le Fin Renaud cheese. These two really went together. Perfect for any social gathering. This cheese has a bit of a barn yard taste to it. not that that is a bad thing. You can save a few bucks … I found La Fin Renaud for sale at Costco in Windsor
CEV Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Cheese: 7 Year Cheddar from Ontario
Comments: This is a match made in heaven. The perfect pairing. This wine is wonderful on its own, add in some 7 year cheddar and it is to die for.
CE Cabernet Franc 2007
Cheese: Le Riopelle di l’isle
Comments: This wine and cheese pairing didn’t work for me. The cheese is just a bit too strong and over powered the wine. Wanda and i both agreed on this one.
All of the cheeses mentioned above can be purchased from Far Flung Foods located in the Market Square.
