Christmas Wines 2008

Selecting our favourite red and white wine for our Christmas dinner has not been an easy task. Wanda and I want to celebrate the season by serving our favourite wines during the most important gathering of the year. There are many good local wines deserving of this honour and tradition but there were a couple of wines that we thought would be perfect pairings for this years Christmas dinner.

On our table this year the red wine will be Erie Shore Vineyard’s “Cabernet Franc Reserve 2005″. This full bodied red wine was aged in oak barrels for 20 months giving it an intense full flavour that will pair perfectly with the Christmas turkey.

This wine is no longer available at Erie Shore’s Vineyards having sold out a few months ago. You may consider their 2006 Cabernet Franc however be advised that it does not have that same bold intensity that the 2005 reserves has.

The white wine that Wanda and selected for our christmas dinner this year is Mastronardi Estate Winery’s “Chardonnay Reserve 2006″. This was actually an easy choice for us as this wine is our favourite white wine for any occassion.

This is a full bodied white wine that will pair well with both our Christmas turkey and honey glazed ham. The oak barreling of ths wine gives it an amazing taste.

Instead of being a time of unusual behavior, Christmas is perhaps the only time in the year when people can obey their natural impulses and express their true sentiments without feeling self-conscious and, perhaps, foolish. Christmas, in short, is about the only chance a man has to be himself. ~Francis C. Farley

Wanda and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
