Winemaker’s Notes:
A medium/light colour suggests an easy-to-drink wine, which Barn Cat is, but at the same time, like an onion, you peel away the layers and there is much more there. The aroma’s lively and pleasing with cherry notes at the core and highlights of new leather, red licorice, and a touch of anise. These impressions are rounded out on the palate with some sweet vanilla/wood and a refreshing zest of acidity that lingers on a crisp finish. The mild tannins, the smooth mouth-feel … the pleasant bite on the finish. All indications point to a great wine drinking experience for the next few years to come. This guy is just the right weight and balance for a Berkshire chop or some spicy sausage right off the barbecue.

Barn Cat 2006 is a blend of these four grapes: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir

I always enjoy tasting wines like this one. There is so much to discover, every taste offers new flavours that slowly reveal themselves.

In the glass the wine shows a deep red/purple colour, It’s from the 2006 but still appears youthful.

Quite an aromatic blend, the nose offers cherry and, blackberry notes along with an earthy character more than likely from the merlot and pinot.

Taste profile is very interesting. The racy acidity creates a juicy mouthfeel. Black berry and cherry fruits take the lead and eventually give way to the earthy, black soil notes. Velvety tannins on the finish are washed away by the zesty acidity which supports a long finish.

Excellent structure and balance. A very good food wine with so many possibilities.

This wine is not VQA but do not let that suggest to you that it lacks quality. I did note the original label did have VQA Lake Erie North Shore printed in it, which has since been covered by an stripe. I imagine the intent was for this to be a VQA wine. There is four different grapes in this blend, perhaps one was harvested from a vintage other than 2006? Who knows? It really doesn’t matter, this is good stuff.
