Sanson Baco Noir Reserve 2008 Review
Winemaker’s Notes:
I think I detect a slight change of style this year. Previous vintages seemed to have a more defined oak influence but this one is really focused on fruit character – Baco fans can rejoice! Lots of that brambly elderberry and wild currant aroma and flavour backed by the lively, juicy acidity that purists love. There are still evident notes of wood to add complexity but this wine is like the old Tiger’s Stadium compared to that damned new “ballpark” they have – one for the purists.

An excellent repeat from Sanson. Their 2005 Baco Reserve was superior and set the standards high for a repeat. They have been successful.
At $25 per bottle it is pricey, especially when many local Baco Noirs sell for half the price. Despite the hefty price tag, this is a Baco that is worth treating yourself now and then.
Fruit Forward and juicy. Big dark berry fruit notes in both the nose and taste integrated with wonderful secondary oak all in perfect balance. Perhaps a little bit jammy (but what Baco isn’t?).
