Sprucewood Shores Riesling 2009 Review
Winemaker’s Notes:
This Riesling has an outstanding nose of lemon grass and citrus. The palate comes in very different from the nose, with a front palate flavour hinting peach and kiwi that gives way to an earthy and herbaceous finish. Some hints of citrus & mineral can be detected. This wine is off dry and can be paired well with thai food, chicken, and pasta in cream sauces.

There is a lot I really liked about this wine before I even opened the bottle.
Sprucewood has been doing a fanastic job at createing labels for their bottles that make you just want to pick up each bottle and look at it. Each label is a piece of artwork that offers some insight on the winery or the wine. I understand that one of the Mitchell sons creates all of the labels for their wines. Well done!
Second on my list of likes is the price. It is very affordable. At $12.95 it’s price right to open at any time without much concern. The price is also perfect for restaurant to consider serving.
Now I tasted this wine before hearing of the results of the 2010 All Canadian Wine Awards. This wine took home a bronze medal.
Lots of lemon on the nose. Taste has this same citrus taste in good concentration along with a nice mineral backbone that gives this wine some nice complexity. Medium body with a nice suede mouthfeel. Steely acidity balanced with just a little bit of sweetness. (off dry).
This is going to be a nice backyard patio sipper this summer around our place.
