From everything I have read and everyone I have talked to 2008 was not suppose to be a good year for local reds. Don’t believe everything you read or hear. The Muscedere’s pulled off another good Cabernet Franc. Perhaps hand picking the grapes or picking them near the end of October are the reasons why?
The wine shows good concentration with a little fading to the rim. Interesting viscosity, it is slow and wide tears suggesting low alcohol or sweetness.
Nose is full of surprises. While it is certainly not powerful it is complex. I picked up the typical green pepper notes found in Lake Erie North Shore Cab Francs along with interesting hints of cherry, some herbs and a subtle touch of oak.
Taste is just as complex. Cherry, bell peppers, herbs, just a litle bit of oak and finished with a nice touch of sweetness and tannins fighting for attention.
This is a medium bodied cab. The acidity left my mouth salivating. Finish has a good length and left me wanting to take another sip.
Order a pizza and enjoy this wine!
