2002 BALANCE POINTE- Cabernet Merlot – Viewpointe Reserve Wine

Winemaker’s Notes:
A nose of intense chocolate and tobacco with flavours of plum, ripe cherry, spice, vanilla and cedar. Full bodied and bold with a velvet finish.

Aroma: Deep cherry, cassis, leather, smoky oak, chocolate and an earthy character
Palate: Dry with good acidity, mid weight plus. Big palate follows the nose, adding rich almost fat mouth feel, ripe tannins and raspberry on the mid palate.

Food Pairing:
Beef, Gorgonzola Cheese and dark chocolate.

This wine is big in every way.

Nose is big on cherry and oak. Taste follows the nose, cherry, leather and burnt oak. It is rich and full flavoured. It’s a smooth wine with tannins and have softened over time giving the wine a wonderful mouthfeel.

Had this wine with a roast. Paired well. Would do well with a big BBQ’ed steak too.

This wine is pricey (for a local wine) but well worth trying. It’s different from most other local Cab / Merlot blends that I have tried and in a good way.

This is a must buy wine when visiting the winery.

This is the best red wine I have ever had in my life. I bought 3 bottles of this wine and will buy more.

Appearance: this is one dense garnet colored wine with a nice ruby edge.

Aroma: the nose lets you know that this is going to be a full bodied wine. A firm earthy note, a very heavy scent of dark berries and a pleasing touch of cherry, sweet cedar, dried spice, cigar box. I think we could play the game ‘what do you smell?’ with this wine. The more I smell this wine the more I like it.

Flavors: good thick dark berries coat the palate, rich soil earthy style, dark chocolate (80% type). If you like a bold, rich, and thick red wine this is it.

Mouthfeel: dry oak and smoky aftertaste, thick lingering blackberry notes coat the teeth and gums, and the aftertaste does linger. The tannins and acidity are under control probably from aging.

Overall, I really like this wine. This could go on my favorite list. I love fuller bodied reds and this would be a good example of what I like.

I bought this last month but, I’ll be emailing them to see if they have more
