This is a nice light chardonnay with a soft citrus flavour. Don’t expect any big buttery taste, as it’s not there. Refreshing simple taste makes this one easy to sip on anytime. It’s very good.
I have only one negative comment and it has nothing to do with the wine. What is with the new label? It looks as if it was printed on a home computer. It is just too simple in design for such a good wine. On the reds the CREW has opted for a simple black label which looks a bit better than this white label.
Did I talk to you at the wine festival on saturday? I was talking with someone about the label on their wine bottles and how I didn’t like it either. I agree with you that the wine is good but the label is so plain.
Why I thought this Chardonnay was oaked was beyond me - oh I know why, its not indicated “un-oaked” on the bottle. I thought there was some rule that if the wine was unoaked it needed to be specified, perhaps that is just my perception? Are all the wineries doing this now?
Back to the wine, my husband and I were invited to a friends home for dinner. They live near this winery on highway 50, a truly lovely drive.
The wine was paired with a perfectly marinated shark steak gently grilled on the bbq. The fish was to die for, however the wine was light to hold up. This wine would be fine for sipping or with some nice cheeses.
I found the wine to be a bit off balance and the alcohol content was is too high (13.9%) that it burned my mouth.
As for the label, just awful. Our friends were told this was their new branding approach - I have always been a fan of “less is more” but this really is not what I meant. I agree with Gary, looks like a home printer.
