CREW Cabernet Franc 2005 Review
Colchester Ridge Estate Winery (CREW)
Please Note:
This wine has been SOLD OUT for quite some time now. (Since the release of CREW’s 2006 Cabernet Franc)
On a recent visit to the winery 4 cases were of this wine were on the shelf for sale. I was told that approximately 30 cases of this wine were held back to be entered into a foreign wine competition. The competition was cancelled and the wine released back into inventory. (July 2009)

What a pleasant surprise walking into Colchester Ridge Estate Wineries retail store last week and finding some of their 2005 Cab Franc on the shelf.
I was told they had only 4 cases left and that they were selling the wine at the original price.
I remember sipping on this wine about a year ago, just before starting EseexWineReview.com. It was so good then and I was like a kid in a candy store seeing it on the shelf again. Rather than being greedy, I picked up just three bottles of this wine, so there may stil be some left for you if you are quick!
Let’s have a look at this wine. It has aged well and is ready to be uncorked right now.
This wine has one hell of a nose. You can’t miss it as soon as the bottle is uncorked aromas of cherry, oak, bell pepper and sprice escapes. The nose will let you know that you are in for a treat.
This wine has softened quite a bit over the years. Tannins are low, unlike the CREW’s other Cabernet’s I am not sure that this could be labelled a big red any more. I really enjoyed the softer cab franc.
Taste echos the nose, interesting to note some sweetness in the wine that I wasn’t expecting. Chill this wine for about 15 minutes, it will bump up the fruit taste making it even better.
This one has aged well and is ready. Hope you are lucky enough to get a bottle or two before they are gone.
