Sprucewood Shore's Cabernet Sauvignon caught me off guard. It is different from other local Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the lake erie North Shore region that I have tasted. Being different is a can be a good thing.

For a wine that has been sitting in a barrel for 18 months I was expecting a bigger, bolder taste. It had some oak taste but not a lot, tannins and acidity were mild to medium at most. Again, not a bad thing.

Nose and taste of dirt earth along with some hints of tobacco and fresh green peppers. Taste has a lot of black berry notes in it followed by a smooth mouthfeel. Like I said, it is missing a lot of the tannins I was expecting.

This is a softer red wine. Very nice drinking wine that taste a lot like a merlot to me.

Priced around $17 makes it a good value for just about any occasion. Serve with any beef meal for a great pairing.
