This is one serious food wine. It is excellent!
First, some behind the scenes info on this wine. I first tasted this one at a Harrow Wine tasting event about 6 months ago. It was so good i drove out to Sanson Estate Winery the following Monday to buy a few bottles only to be told they only sold this wine by the case to restaurants BUT I could by a case if I was interested.
I thought about it and nearly pulled my credit card out and took a case but decided if the wine was generally available to the general public by the bottle then I wasn’t going to review it and add it to this site. I walked away disappointed.
I emailed the winery on several occasions suggesting they should sell this wine by the bottle and was told that I was not the only one but the winery remained firm that this wine could only be purchased by the case.
Things have changed in six month, I am happy to report that Sanson’s Sauvignon Blanc is now available for purchase by the bottle at their retail store, for how long, who knows?
So lets have a look at this wine. It has great texture and mouthfeel and will pair with just about any dinner from chicken to beef (yes you can pair white wine with beef).
It has a hints of fresh cut grass and critus nose. Lemon and tropical fruit taste up front mellowed by some crisp acidity. Excellent from start to finish. This is one of the best Sauvignon Blanc’s in Southwest Ontario!
This wine is probably at its peak right now (maybe another reason the wine maker decided to start selling this wine by the bottle.) Buy a few, you will enjoy this one.

I am so happy to read that they are selling this wine now. It is very good even though a little pricey for a white wine.
Sauvignon Blanc has always been an “iffy” wine for me. A very good one is difficult to come by and this one for me was only just “okay”
Sanson Winery is one of those out of the way wineries that I don’t visit as often as some of the others. I’m always afraid to drive all that way to only find out they are closed. They have no advertising and are not included on the maps. I keep hearing Viewpointe Winery owns this one and will be shutting it down. I wish someone would lay to rest any discrepancies around this place.
Sorry back to the wine. It was awhile ago when I had this wine so I don’t want to delve to deep here as I can’t recall all the specifics. I can recall it was pleasant but certainly didn’t knock my socks off.
