That was probably because the prior vintages were so exceptional in my opinion. I think this is a unique red since most have never even heard of it. Too bad since it's a great medium bodied red that can be enjoyed just sipping or with food. I only pick up lightly on the fruity nose but get the cranberry and a little sour cherry taste at first. I get more of a tart than sweet taste and I like the smooth fisnish. It paired just lovely with the pork steak I Q'd up for dinner. What a surprise when I walked into Aleksander Estates retail store last weekend and was told they finally had a few bottles ready. This bronze medal winner at the recent 2009 All Canadian Wine Championship has been released just in time for summer. Perfect timing as this is a great summer time sipper. The nose and taste are both fruity. Big cranberry cocktail taste with a nice long finish. I wonder how this wine would taste if it had some oak it in. Because it is fruity, it is also a bit sweet. Keep that in mind if you like those big reds. It is also new in the bottle so I expect some of that sweetness to soften a bit with time. It will still be ready to sip on this July and August. This wine is excellent with pizza. We ordered a take out "Salty Dog" pizza from Calabria's in Cottam and paired it with this wine. Excellent. Should also part well with chicken dinners.
