I have been waiting for a while to taste this wine. I was lucky enough to sample this wine when it was in still in the barrel and I knew that it was oh so good then and that going to be a good one. I also knew that the hand picked grapes were in short supply so I was expecting a hefty price tag when this one would be bottled.
I was right on all counts, the wine lived up to my anticipation and the price per bottle is expensive. At $40 per bottle this wine will not be for everyone but with only 25 cases or 300 bottles the Muscedere’s would be crazy to sell at a lower price. I just don’t like paying that much but I understand why they have to have such a high price point on this one.
I am frugal, I like a good deal, and don’t want to pay $40 for a bottle of wine often but given the right time, place, food, and company, this wine is living the good life.
This syrah has deep fruit flavors highlighted by savory, peppery spice with hints of spicey-oak on the back-end. Good balance, tannins are present but do not dominate. Some oak but not a lot. A super long finish which was a nice treat.
We had this wine with some secret special smoke and spice sauce based Baby Back Ribs that I prepared on the BBQ. Excellent pairing and an enjoyable meal.
Muscedere’s Syrah 2007 won and award of merit “Bronze” in the recent 2009 All Canadian Wine Championships. Treat yourself and buy this one.
This wine has been in the bottle for about a month now and is ready to drink. It will probably get even better over the summer. Treat yourself to this wine, it is excellent.
