Excellent wine!
This wine was a Double Gold award winning wine at the “All Canadian Wine Championship“. I knew that before opening the bottle so my expectations were already high. No problem, this wine deserved it. It is excellent.
The wine has a deep red colour.
After pouring my glass of wine I wanted to taste it right away but let it sit for a few minutes until tempation got the better of me.
The taste had lots of dark cherry and ripe blackberry notes, some smoky oak, with a smooth finish with some dark chocolate notes that lingered for quite some time. (very interesting). Not a lot of tannins in this wine. I actully was expecting that there would be more.
This is a smooth wine with excellent mouthfeel.
BUT ….. yes there is a but …
I recently opened D’Angelo Estate Old Vines Foch 2002 (REVIEW HERE). It is excellent too and in my opinion just as good as this one. Perhaps the 2002 Foch has aged well in the bottle, I dunno, both are excellent however the 2005 Foch Reserve is a five dollars more the Foch 2002.
Perhaps a blind side by side taste taste is in order to figure this one out.
Buy this wine!
Sal D’Angelo makes the worlds best Foch, right here in Ontario. I completely agree with your review. I have enjoyed his Fochs over many years – they stand up with the very best red wines in the world.
