Wine of the Month - March 2010
Aleksander Estate Chardonnay 2008

I can't help but think about how busy it must be at local wineries in the month of March as I enjoy this Chardonnay. Prunning is well underway as the wineries wonder what will be in store for the 2010 vintage.

Aleksander Estate Winery has been producing a lovely Chardonnay and this 2008 is no exception. I tasted this wine last May shortly afer it was bottled. It was quite good then and seems to be really improving as it sits in the bottle. Wonderful citrus notes greet the palate. There is a nice balance of acidity and sugar making this a nice quaffer.

Aleksander's 2007 Chardonnay sold out without much notice. If you haven't tried this one yet, get it before it's gone.

Pelee Island Blanc de Blanc 2007 Review

Wine Maker’s Notes:
Lighthearted, fruity wine that packs lots of refreshment.

The grapes were harvested in the month of September when they had reached 19° brix. They were fermented for a four-week period in temperature controlled steel tanks.

The reason this is one of our most popular wines is due to it being a great compliment to so many different foods. This wine is best suited to light cuisine such as poultry or seafood, or as a pleasantly dry aperitif. Serve well chilled.

GRAPES: 69% Vidal, 21% Seyval Blanc and 10% Geishenheim
BRIX: 19°
ALCOHOL: 12.5%
RESIDUAL SUGAR: 7.1 g/L

Sprucewood Shores Cabernet Franc 2007 Review

Winemaker’s Notes:
A Franc like no other, this one’s got a lot to say from the moment you smell it to the lingering and intense finish in your mouth. Expect the unexpected, as this wine opens with very berry followed by a smooth transition into a spicy and smoky nose. The fruit has been well balanced in this wine from ageing in oak barrels for 18 months, so enjoy this now or lay down for another 6 years.

Pelee Island Monarch Vidal 2007 Review

Winemaketer Notes:
Crisp and vibrant, this richly textured wine is complimented by flavours of citrus and pear with a nuance of butter. Bold tropical fruit flavours, off-dry, easy sipping style.

These grapes were harvested in the last weeks of September when they had reached 19.4 brix. The maturation period was four weeks in stainless steel tanks with the temperature at a controlled level of 16 Celsius.

While this wine is best served with white meats, you can combine it with just about anything. Best of all, our Monarch Vidal is enjoyed most when paired with good friends, a sun drenched patio, or a candlelit dinner.
