There are a lot of nice things going on with this wine. First recommendation is to give this one time to breathe. Open it at least one hour or longer if you can before serving it. it will be worth the wait.
This Meritage is a nice classis bend of the Bordeaus varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. It has a deep purple colour. On the nose I picked up a black cherry bouquet and some spices.
There is a lot going on on the palate from start to finish. Hints of black cherry, then black berries along with oak make for a long finish. Very nice.
It’s not a cheap local wine, but worth a try.
This wine was not at all like its predecessor. I quite enjoy the wines coming from this new winery. This red in particular had a unique bitterness that I didn’t really enjoy. When first poured into the glass it didn’t seem to have much going on, after a few swirls and some air it seemed to release some of the spices and cherry that the wine maker describes. Tasting the wine was a bit disappointing as I was expecting this wine to be much bigger in body and it just wasn’t. The mouth feel lacked the weight that I am accustomed to with a bordeaux. Wine does not deliver on the price.
