Sprucewood Shores Deux Rouge 2006 Review
Blend: Pinot Noir & Cabernet Franc
Winemaker’s Notes:
Sprucewood Shores’ Deux Rouge offers the palate warm oak spices with a finish of blackberry, cherry and plum flavours. Aged in Hungarian oak barrels for 12 months and blended at the winemaker’s discretion at the end for the perfect balance, this wine is ideally served with a hearty beef or lamb dish.

I love surprises and this wine was a very good surprise.
With no information on the wine bottle and no information on Sprucewood’s web site about this wine I didn’t know what I was get myself into when I opened this one for dinner today.
Dinner was a nice roast, along with baked potatos and a California salad.
I opened the wine just before dinner was served so there was very little time to aerate wine and let it breath.
My french is not that good but I assume “Deux Rouge” in English is “Two Reds”. So what are the two reds? I have send an email into the winemaker asking for the answer however until then here is my guess…..
The wine reminded me alot of Pelee Island’s red Eco Trail which is a blend of 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Chambourcin.
On the nose I picked up green peppers, and a floral bouquet. It’s nice.
There is a nice oak taste to the wine. Not overwelming, it just appears near the finish. It’s a very well balanced wine. East and enjoyable to drink.
Priced at just $11.95 this wine it is well worth the price and is better than many $15 – $20 blended wines.
Loved this wine. I agree that it is probably a mix of Cab Franc and the second wine I think is probably a Merlot.
Well looks like I got one of the two grapes right. I was told today that the blend is Cab Franc and Pinot Noir.

Tasted Again 15 Jan, 2011
I believe that this wine has sold out at Sprucewood Estate Winery. Having a few left in my cellar I decided to open one today before the big NFL playoff game between Pittsburgh and Baltimore came in TV.
Still tasting very good. A slight herbaceous edge along with some sweet cherry fruits. I noted bell pepper last time and still do. Good acidity and soft silky tannins.
Light and refreshing with a long finish.
