Wine of the Month - March 2010
Aleksander Estate Chardonnay 2008

I can't help but think about how busy it must be at local wineries in the month of March as I enjoy this Chardonnay. Prunning is well underway as the wineries wonder what will be in store for the 2010 vintage.

Aleksander Estate Winery has been producing a lovely Chardonnay and this 2008 is no exception. I tasted this wine last May shortly afer it was bottled. It was quite good then and seems to be really improving as it sits in the bottle. Wonderful citrus notes greet the palate. There is a nice balance of acidity and sugar making this a nice quaffer.

Aleksander's 2007 Chardonnay sold out without much notice. If you haven't tried this one yet, get it before it's gone.

She’s back and she’s better than ever! Ruby Tuesday is definitely our wine of choice for weddings and large events. Ruby Tuesday’s youthful gamay is balanced nicely with the touch of tannins from her Chambourcin side. From nose to finish, Ruby Tuesday is a crowd pleaser through and through.

Smith & Wilson Rondeau Red 2006 Review

4.4 overall score

Winemaker’s Notes:
Gamay Noir / Merlot, dry

Fresh and fruity, a very accessible wine. Ready to drink early, but developing an unexpected depth of character while bottle aging. The nose suggests strawberry, cherry and a wee bit of violet. Rondeau Red has a smooth and supple character in the mouth without the bite of tannins.

Pairs well with stews, creamy dishes and poultry. Fine for roasted vegetables too.

Pelee Island Shariz 2005 Review

The Vinedressers

Winemaker’s Notes:
Shariz (Syrah) is a relatively new varietal in the vineyards of Pelee Island (2000), and we are extremely pleased to offer you this proof of it’s success. The long and hot growing conditions of the island have produced a dry tannic red wine, while aging for 15 months in classic oak barrels has enhanced the blackcurrant fruit flavour and the long smoky finish. This solid red wine is best served in a large glass at 17 degrees Celsius.

Winemaker’s Notes:
Riesling, dry

Brilliant, straw coloured white wine with the subtle aroma of saffron and honey. Our versatile Riesling teases your palate with a delicate hint of spice, followed by the rich flavours of honey and apricots.

An elegant Riesling boasting good balance with a long clean finish. It pairs well with Asian inspired foods. Try it with Sushi or a Chinese black-bean based dish. It is also great with curries or cream based seafood and pasta dishes. Most excellent with fish!
