Mastronardi Merlot 2006 Review
Winemaker’s Notes:
This honoured varietal stands on its own with a medium body and well structured tannins. Herbaceous, yet fruity aromas of black current are enhanced on the palate, followed by a long bitter-sweet chocolate finish. Matches well with grilled steak and and Asian cuisine.

this is one of the best merlots I have ever tried. There is a bitterness to this wine that is just right. I have never tasted this before in any other wine. Excellent wine.
This is my wife’s favorite red wine.
I have come to enjoy immensely the red wines coming from this local winery, and why not, their wine maker is Lyse Leblanc. I have been a fan of Lyse’s wines since she owned her own winery.
I sampled this wine a few months ago when it was first made available, I was told to lay it down for awhile and note the changes, well I opened our first bottle with guests 2 weekends ago and it was simply incredible. The nose is black cherries with hints of plum the oak does not over power the wine however its certainly there. The weight of the wine in the mouth is just right and the finish reveals it self to sweet tobacco and dark chocolate. I think this may be a winner. I will try to wait a few months before uncorking another.
Just found this bottle lost in my wine cellar. I forgot all about it.
For quite some time now I have been telling everyone just how much I like Mastronardi’s Cab Franc 2006. It’s available at many Essex County LCBO’s so it has been easy to pick up and saves a drive to the Kingsville Winery.
Listen to me, visit the winery and pick this merlot up. That is the only place that it is available and it is worth the trip to pick this wine up.
Often when I taste merlot I am left with a feeling that there is something missing. Even when they are good I find that this is the case. Didn’t find that here at all.
What the hell have I been doing negleting this wine??? Maybe it is a good thing as I think this wine aged perfectly and is ready right now to be uncorked.
The nose has some nice fruity notes and a hint of oak.
The taste is well balanced. Some tobacco, bell peppers, rich fruit with smooth, easy drinking flavours with a nice long finish after the glass was put down.
I opened this bottle without any thought as to what I was going to pair it with. I am planning to cook some BBQ’ed chicken a little later this evening but this wine make not even last that long it is so good.
